Safe, comfortable, quick, reliable and convenient best sums up Bangkok’s mass transit systems. Most of the cities attractions are easily reached by one of the following, the below are the closest to the hotel:
Phloenchit or Nana BTS SkyTrain (Nearest BTS Stations)
A 10 minute walk to either station, alternatively have our Tuk-Tuk drop you off at the the beginning of the ‘soi’. The stations from there are a short 5 minute walk.
There are 2 routes – Sukhumvit Line & Silom Line – which cover much of the city center. Trains run daily between 6.00am and 12.00midnight with frequent services in the day and an increase in frequency during rush hour.
Sukhumvit MRT Metro (Nearest MRT Station)
A 20 minute walk, alternatively have our Tuk-Tuk drop you off at the the beginning of the ‘soi’ and either walk the 10 minutes to the station or hop onto the skytrain at Phloenchit and take it two stops to Asok which is the interchange station to the MRT.
Bangkok’s 18-station subway line stretches 20kms from Hualamphong to Bang Sue. Operating hours are from 6.00am to 12.00midnight, with a frequency of less than 5 minutes during peak hours (6.00am to 9.00pm/4.30pm to7.30pm) and less than 10 minutes during off peak hours. (Click here for MRT Map)
Metered air-con taxis are available around-the-clock. Flag fall is THB35 (for the first 2kms) and the fare climbs in THB2 increments. Tipping is not required but rounding up is common. For trips to/from the airport, expressway toll fees will be borne by the passenger.
Word of caution: Check with the driver that he intends on using the meter before getting in, and ensure it is turned on once seated.
Locally known as 'samlor' or otherwise your three-wheeled taxis. Bargain before hopping on board and beware offers at unbelievably low prices, a set up to lure you to overpriced souvenir or jewelry shops. Approximate cost for a short 10 minute ride is around THB 40 - 100.
Extensive and inexpensive public bus service with prices ranging from THB 8 to THB 30 depending on type of bus, however, as destinations are given only in Thai it is best you get a bus route map (available at most hotels, TAT offices and bookshops).
